HYROX Mixed Relay Invitational: New Qualification System for 2026
The Mixed Relay Invitational returns to Stockholm with a new nation-based qualification system featuring 20 countries competing for glory.
Since its Elite format debut at the 2024 World Championships in Nice, the Mixed Relay has become a high-intensity highlight of the fitness racing scene. Now, the 2026 edition introduces an exciting evolution: the Mixed Relay Invitational—a transparent, nation-based qualification system that brings together the world's top athletes in a battle for international glory.
The Mixed Relay Invitational is a nation-based team competition featuring 20 countries competing head-to-head. Each team consists of four athletes:
- 2 top-ranked male athletes
- 2 top-ranked female athletes
Unlike the standard Team Relay format (where 4 athletes from the same team divide the work), the Invitational combines the best individual performers from each nation, adding a new layer of national pride and strategic depth to HYROX racing.
How Qualification Works
Unlike traditional HYROX qualification, the Mixed Relay uses a transparent points-based framework aligned with the Elite 15 qualification system.
Key Qualification Details
Qualification Window:
- April 1, 2025 → April 1, 2026
How Points Work:
- Each athlete's best five Singles division results count
- Requires a valid HYROX Athlete License (available since October 23, 2025)
- Only points earned while licensed are eligible
National Performance Index (NPI)
Twenty nations earn their spot through the National Performance Index (NPI):
- 1 host nation → Sweden (World Championships 2026)
- 19 nations via NPI → Calculated by combining:
- Top 2 male athletes' ranking totals
- Top 2 female athletes' ranking totals
The 19 highest NPI scores globally qualify. Ties are resolved via strength-of-field methodology.
Regional Representation
Each region (EMEA, APAC, Americas) is guaranteed representation through its Regional Championship. If a region's top nation already qualified via NPI, the slot rolls down to the next eligible nation in that region.
Team Rules & Requirements
Every team must:
- ✅ Include the two highest-ranked male and female athletes from their nation
- ✅ Share nationality (passport-based)
- ✅ Meet ranking and licensing requirements
- ✅ Name the athlete with the highest ranking total as team captain
